How to find underpriced PSA cards on eBay

A good Buy It Now price on a chase slab doesn't sit for long. Here's how to know what a fair price is, build searches that catch new listings, get alerted, and tell a real deal from bait.

The short answer

  • Price the exact card in the exact grade from recent sold listings, and compare totals with shipping.
  • Search for one card at a time: name, card number and grade, with a minus sign in front of words you don't want, like -cgc or -proxy.
  • Filter to Buy It Now and sort by newly listed, so the newest fixed-price listings are at the top.
  • eBay's saved searches send email alerts for new matches, but buyers in eBay's community describe them as a daily email, not an instant ping.
  • A price far below recent sales is also the most common bait for fake slabs, so check the cert, the photos and the seller before you buy.

Step 1: know the fair price for that grade

A listing is only underpriced next to a fair price, and that price depends on the exact card and grade. A PSA 10 can sell for several times a PSA 9 of the same card.

  • Use sold listings, not asking prices. On eBay, search the card and turn on the Sold items filter to see what copies in that grade actually sold for.
  • Compare totals. Add shipping to every price: the listing you're looking at and the sales you compare it with.
  • Check a public price guide such as PokePrices, which builds its prices from completed sales only.
  • Watch the trend. Prices move week to week, especially around new sets and reprints, so a price that was fair a month ago can be high today.

Our PSA 10 vs PSA 9 guide explains how much the grade moves the price.

Broad searches bury good listings. Search for the card name, card number and grade together, for example:

charizard 199/165 psa 10 -cgc -bgs -sgc -proxy -custom -japanese

  • The card number separates the chase card from every other print of the same Pokémon. Some sellers drop the leading zero, so also try 172/86 when you search for 172/086.
  • A minus sign directly in front of a word leaves out listings with that word. You can group several at once: -(cgc,bgs,sgc).
  • Filters: choose Buy It Now and sort by newly listed, so the newest fixed-price listings are at the top.

Step 3: save the search for alerts

Run the search on eBay, then select Save this search at the top of the results. eBay emails you when new items match, and the search appears under Saved searches in My eBay, where the envelope icon turns its emails off and on.

Two limits matter when you're hunting deals:

  • Timing. eBay's help page doesn't say how quickly the emails go out. In eBay's community forums, buyers and moderators describe them as a daily email covering new matches from the last 24 hours, not an instant alert.
  • Volume. You need one saved search per card and grade, and you still have to judge every match against the fair price yourself.

Step 4: judge the deal in under a minute

  1. Total with shipping against recent sold prices for the same grade.
  2. Seller: feedback count and rating, and real photos of this slab.
  3. Cert: look it up at psacard.com/cert and compare every field. Our cert lookup guide shows how.
  4. Protection: at $200 or more, look for the Authenticity Guarantee checkmark, which means PSA checks the case and label before the card ships to you.
  5. Too good to be true: PreGradeCards treats a PSA 10 at 40% of recent sales as fake until proven otherwise. Underpriced and suspiciously cheap are not the same thing. Our fake slab guide covers the tells.

Or let SlabPing watch for you

SlabPing does steps 1 to 3 for you. Every card and grade we track has a market price from recent completed sales, refreshed daily, and the list grows every day with the cards sellers list most. We check new Buy It Now listings through eBay's official API every 45 seconds, plus auctions in their last 15 minutes. A listing goes to our free Discord when its total with shipping is 20% or more under the price for its grade.

Alerts skip titles with words like proxy, replica, custom or reprint, listings priced too low to be real, and sellers with fewer than 50 feedback or under 98% positive. Step 4 is still yours. See the prices in our price guide.

Questions people ask

How do I find deals on PSA cards on eBay?

Price the exact card and grade from recent sold listings, search for that card by name, number and grade with exclusions, filter to Buy It Now sorted by newly listed, and save the search for email alerts. Then check the seller, the cert and the photos before you buy.

Can eBay notify me when a specific card is listed?

Yes. Save the search and eBay emails you when new items match. Buyers in eBay's community describe these as a daily email rather than an instant alert, so a fast-moving listing may be gone by the time it arrives.

How do I exclude words from an eBay search?

Put a minus sign directly in front of the word, like -proxy. To leave out several words at once, group them: -(cgc,bgs,sgc).

Is a PSA card listed far below market a scam?

Not always, but a price far below recent sales is the most common bait for fake slabs. Check the cert, the photos, the seller and, at $200 or more, the Authenticity Guarantee badge before you buy.
